What is the Active Pauses Metric?
The Active Pauses metric represents the number of subscriptions that are in a paused state at any given time. An Active Pause occurs when both billing and access to content are temporarily suspended by the user, typically with the intention of resuming at a later date. Read more about Pause.
You can find it in the Cleeng Dashboard under Analytics > Paused Subscriptions.
How is it Calculated?
The formula can be expressed as:
Active Pauses = Count of subscriptions where status was paused during the selected period
This is calculated based on the date the pause event was initiated. The default time range in the dashboard is the last 30 days.
How to Use the Active Pauses Metric in a Subscription Business
The Active Pauses metric helps you monitor how subscribers are using the pause feature and understand engagement patterns:
- Analyze Churn Risk: A high number of active pauses could indicate churn risk or content fatigue.
- Target Retention Campaigns: Use insights to design re-engagement strategies aimed at paused users.
- Segment by Offer or Channel: Understand which offers or acquisition channels are more prone to pauses.
FAQs
Are subscriptions with active pause counted as churned?
No. Subscriptions with active pause are not considered churned since the user has not canceled their plan but opted to temporarily suspend it.
Does pausing stop billing and access?
Yes. While paused, users are not billed and do not have access to content.
Can paused subscriptions be resumed automatically?
Yes, depending on your configuration. However, no automated email notifications are sent when a user pauses or resumes their subscription (no Mailchimp integration).
