If you use Cleeng’s Merchant (Cleeng is a dynamic checkout engine and acts as Merchant of Record) and sell your content to customers in the United Arab Emirates, Cleeng handles the collection and remittance of VAT on your behalf to the FTA (Federal Tax Authority).
- The prices for the content offers with localization set to UAE (you can recognize them by an ‘AE’ ending on their offer ID) are gross prices (incl. VAT). This means that the prices you set up in the Cleeng dashboard for the content offers with localization set to UAE include VAT.
- Your viewers in the UAE see gross prices (incl. VAT) – as opposed to the net prices displayed to the users located in the US and Canada, where the sales tax is calculated at checkout.
- The broadcaster payout that you receive from Cleeng is made excluding VAT that is collected from the end-users in the UAE.
- To check the current VAT rate in the UAE, please refer to the Official Portal of the UAE Government.
Note: Before February 9th, 2024 prices for offers localized for UAE were exclusive of VAT. From February 9th, 2024, prices for UAE are treated as inclusive of VAT on the Cleeng platform and Cleeng handles the collection and remittance of VAT on your behalf to the FTA (Federal Tax Authority) – applicable to Merchant clients only.
