Overview
Pix is a 24/7 instant payment system created and regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil, enabling immediate, low-cost money transfers between individuals and businesses. Launched in 2020, it allows users to pay physically and online.
Pix Automático (Automatic Pix) is a new Pix feature from the Central Bank of Brazil that enables fully automated recurring payments directly from a payer’s bank account. It is intended for subscriptions where the customer provides a one-time authorization, after which payments are automatically debited according to the schedule.
For Cleeng clients, this feature is powered by our partnership with dLocal, enabling seamless automated payment collections in Brazilian Reais (BRL).
This feature is exclusively available to clients using the Cleeng Merchant product.
Currently, it is only supported via Cleeng Hosted Checkout. It is not yet available for custom API integrations or MediaStore SDK components.
Key Features & Benefits
- Higher Conversion: Pix Automático allows unbanked users or those without credit cards in Brazil to pay, in particular to subscribe online.
- Automated Recurring Billing: Unlike standard Pix (which is one-off), Pix Automático handles recurring charges automatically after the initial authorization.
- Reduced Churn: Pix Automático eliminates payment failures caused by expired credit cards or insufficient credit limits, as funds are debited directly from the bank account.
- Localized Growth: Pix Automático is being adopted by a significant portion of the Brazilian population, thanks to the sponsoring of Banco do Brasil. This allows online subscription businesses to grow locally.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Pix Automático?
Pix Automático is a Pix-based recurring payment service where the payer’s bank automatically initiates Pix transfers from the payer’s account to a business according to a pre-agreed mandate. It supports both fixed and variable recurring amounts and replaces manual Pix payments or traditional direct debit for many use cases.
Who created Pix Automático?
Pix Automático is defined and regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil (Banco Central do Brasil) as part of the broader Pix ecosystem.
How does Cleeng support Pix Automático?
Cleeng provides its Merchant clients with the possibility to collect payments from their Brazilian end-users through Pix Automático. We use a major South American based PSP named dLocal to process recurring payments from Pix users.
Which currency does Cleeng support with Pix Automático?
Cleeng collects payments in Brazilian Reais (BRL) using Pix Automático, enabling seamless, real-time transactions that maximize conversion and minimize payment friction for subscribers.
Is Pix Automático free for end-users?
The Central Bank specifies that Pix services, including Pix Automático, are free of charge for individuals initiating payments. Cleeng does not apply any additional fees to your end-users when they choose Pix as their preferred payment method.
Is it safe to use Pix Automático?
Pix Automático inherits Pix’s security model (instant settlement, authenticated access via bank app, encrypted communication). Cleeng is fully compliant with Brazilian regulations to collect payment data through its experienced partner dLocal. End-users can revoke the mandate whenever they choose to, following similar terms and processes that Cleeng provides for any other payment method.
How does a Cleeng publisher get paid for Pix Automático transactions?
Only publishers using Cleeng Merchant can receive payout from Pix Automático. The amount collected from Pix Automático is included in your payout invoice in the settlement currency you selected.
Where can I see reporting of Pix Automático transactions?
Customers using Merchant can select “Pix Automático” in the “Payment Method” filter within the Merchant section of the Cleeng dashboard.
Does Pix Automático follow similar settings as other payment methods (e.g. dunning settings, coupon settings, etc.)?
Yes. All settings that you have on Cleeng’s platform (retries, coupons, etc.) are applied for Pix Automático. Reach out to your Account Manager if you need help in changing or viewing your settings.
What happens if the end-user using Pix Automático has insufficient funds?
If the end-user’s account lacks sufficient balance at the time of execution, the payment authorization via Pix Automático will fail. Handling of failed payments (retries, dunning, service suspension) is managed by Cleeng, just like any other payment method we support.
How are disputes and chargebacks handled on Pix Automático?
Pix transactions, including Pix Automático, are push payments with immediate settlement, so classical card chargebacks do not apply. Disputes around unauthorized mandates or errors are handled via dLocal’s complaint and refund mechanisms.
How does Pix Automático compare to traditional direct debit?
Pix Automático uses the Pix instant payment infrastructure instead of bilateral bank agreements, reducing complexity and costs for setting up recurring collections. It also supports real‑time settlement and broader coverage across institutions than many legacy debit arrangements.
